Alchemy is partnering with a prestigious contemporary art gallery based in New York City. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Gallery Manager to lead front-of-house operations and ensure an exceptional visitor experience. This is a key leadership role within a high-performing team, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, client-facing environment and brings a calm, confident approach to people and processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day running of gallery spaces, ensuring consistently high standards of presentation and visitor experience.
- Lead, support, and develop a team of gallery assistants, interns, and junior staff.
- Coordinate closely with the sales team to ensure operational alignment and responsiveness.
- Manage team scheduling, time tracking, and absence planning.
- Drive onboarding, training, and ongoing development of front-of-house staff.
- Maintain up-to-date internal guides, manuals, and operational documents.
- Handle supplier relationships and oversee invoice processing.
- Support gallery events, previews, and openings with a hands-on, solutions-focused mindset.
- Lead regular team meetings and performance reviews.
- Collaborate with operations to resolve any facilities or safety matters.
- Identify opportunities to streamline systems and implement improvements.
Key Requirements:
- Previous experience (2 - 4 years) in a similar role within a gallery, museum, luxury retail, or creative environment.
- Leadership skills with experience managing teams and workflows.
- Excellent communication, problem solving and organisational skills.
- Familiarity with contemporary art or an interest in the sector is highly desirable.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to uphold high standards independently.
